Ignacio Fernández Vázquez

I was born in Madrid (Spain). I received a BA and an MA both from Universidad Complutense de Madrid. My line of research focuses on 20th century and contemporary literature in the Spanish-speaking world. I am interested in understanding how economic processes influence literature and art. One of my main focuses is narratives of crisis, especially the literary and cultural forms that emerged in Spain following the deindustrialization process in the late 20th century, and the crisis of financial capitalism and neoliberalism which culminated in the 2008 financial crash. My work aims to dissect how neoliberal practices and extractive capitalism developed and what type of literature they have spawned. I am particularly interested in understanding how material conditions reflect on literary form.
